I hope that this work-around also works for other readers and that Microsoft will offer a solution soon.ĭuring another search I came across this Microsoft Answers post. Feels almost like Microsoft is trying to force us to use this feature :) However, when I turn "News and Interesting Topics" back on, the taskbar behaves normally again. Shortcuts and the start menu were not affected by this and could still be used. But after a reboot, I saw all the icons move over the clock and end up with a completely empty toolbar. When I turn off the display of this feature completely, which I actually want to do because this is not relevant to me, I didn't notice any problems at first. It concerns the versions 20H2 and 21H1.Īpparently it has to do with disabling the new "News and Interesting Topics" toolbar. I can reproduce this problem on 2 of my computers. contacted me by e-mail and reported the following (thanks for that): Similar problems reported from other usersīased on my article here, blog reader Carsten H. Then I asked my German blog readers about that issue and got confirmation. On my test system I could not see this behavior.

I did not ask, if uninstalling the update KB5003214 will help. Please warn the other users in your blog. Since the display reacts so sensitively to system-related commands, I suspect a bug in the Explorer that MS has rebuilt there.

Graphics driver is up to date (internal graphics Intel 620), as virus protection (otherwise always gladly mentioned as the culprit) is the built-in Defender. The search on the left changes color in the field. No matter if light or dark mode, double ghost displays are produced as soon asI press the Win key, the bar is shifted about 2 cm to the right, clock and notifications thus no longer visible.

MS has done it again, after the update the taskbar shows a crazy behavior. Now a reader of my German blog contacted me via e-mail and wrote:

However things are a bit different this time BitLocker isn't present in Control Panel, nothing happens when I click on it after I type BitLocker on the start menu.Īgain, standby (sleep) is broken on the computer, the machine freezes when it wakes - the lock screen is displayed, and the mouse pointer can be moved, but nothing responds and I have to hard reset.I had reported about the optional preview update KB5003214 in the blog post Windows 10 2004-21H1: Preview Updates (05/25/021). I can verify this by an Advanced Restart into the Command Prompt which prompts for the recovery key to access C:, and manage-bde -status This looked good so a reboot later, and I am in hardware encryption mode. Said it needed to run the checks upon reboot. The next attempt at turning on BitLocker didn't show the screen asking to encrypt the used spaces only, and instead I then uninstalled the Intel RST drivers, as I read somewhere these can conflict with hardware encryption capabilities. Time it asked if I wanted to just encrypt used areas or all areas including free space - seeing this screen determines BitLocker is just using software-based encryption. I then tried encrypting again a few times, each

Just wanted to try the process of encrypting the hard drive again to see if there would be any change, so I firstly decrypted the current software encryption by turning BitLocker off. I suspect the drive maybe isn't accessible after standby. On wake the machine either freezes, or BSODs with KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. The problem isn't just that I can't manage BitLocker from within Windows, it seems to cause an issue waking from sleep. But if I boot off a USB stick and use the command prompt, I can see it is encrypted with hardwareĮncryption, and I can use the command line tools to decrypt it using the recovery key.

The odd thing is that as soon as the drive is encrypted and restarted, within Windows BitLocker shows the drive as not encrypted, both GUI and through manage-bde.

Via the Samsung Magician tool, then secure wiping the disk, then installing Windows clean and enabling BitLocker. I have set BitLocker up with hardware encryption (eDrive, SED) I have a new HP Envy x360 (15-w103na) laptop with built in TPM, and installed a Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD drive.

I have a strange problem with Windows 10 Pro and can't find any similar reportings.
